Everybody understands that you're supposed to say 'our employees are our most valuable asset' to the point where, even if it's really true, they're not going to really trust you until you've earned that - same with customers.
Customers..do not take them for granted. They have so many options today it’s ridiculous! Be obsessed about your customers!! Make sure you cascade that down to your employees. Also, have a soft eye on competitors. They are developing products and services for YOUR customers. Know what they’re doing!
